The Future Of The U.S. Auto Industry
Believe it or not there are many places around the world where gas is more expensive. As a result, the consumers in those countries tend to pay a little extra on the price tag of a car in exchange for a compact car that gets better fuel economy. In America a small car doesn’t have a good connotation. Probably because they appear inferior to the full size models. But America is coming around to Europe’s way of thinking. There is a big push to produce hybrid vehicles, electric cars and alternative fuel vehicles.
Green Fleet
A hot issue right now is to make company fleets “green”. Customers are demanding that vehicles be made that will make a difference in the amount of carbon emissions expelled and energy efficiency. In doing so, they are also saving money. The industry is listening and stepping up production.
The Auto Industry Vision
The vision of the U.S. auto industry is to increase fuel economy, reduce auto emissions, and dislodge oil as the leading source of fuel by using alternative fuel sources. The industry is focusing on melding conventional drivetrains with alternative fuel sources like ethanol and biodiesel. They also expect to produce more hybrid vehicles and increasing the productivity of the electric car. One other promising technology is the development of the hydrogen fuel cell/electric systems.
Fuel Solution Strategy
A good fuel solution strategy is to break it up like fingers on your hand, into 5 parts: fuel efficiency, bio fuel, hybrid, electric and fuel cell. So we need to increase our fuel efficiency until were ready to buy a new vehicle. Then purchase a hybrid or electric car.
There is really no clear cut solution to reduce our dependence on foreigh oil reduce our dependence on foreign oil but research and development is going full speed ahead. And with American ingenuity, a solution could be right around the corner.
