Al Gore - Innovator or Imposter?

Former US Vice-President Al Gore was presented with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, for his efforts in bringing the problem of global warming to the attention of the masses, and offering some of his own solutions to the problem.

There can be no denying that Mr. Gore has been instrumental in raising awareness of the global warming problem.  His movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” was the main vehicle by which he accomplished this.

But I’m a little puzzled as to what this has to do with Peace.  I could understand a prize in Science, but as far as I can see, Al Gore has done squat to help world peace.

Since I’m not one of the people who gives out these awards,  I’ll defer to their expertise.  But it seems to me that you have to ask - if someone is recognized as a pioneer in a cause, shouldn’t he actually believe in that cause?  Shouldn’t he be an example for all of us to follow?  You would think so.  But Al doesn’t see it that way.

Mr and Mrs Al Gore’s residence uses more electricity in a month than a typical American household uses in a year.   Al regularly travels via private jet to his speaking engagements.  And his caravan of Lincoln town cars and SUVs idle nearby with the air conditioners running while he speaks.

This is obviously a simple case of “do as I say, not as I do”.  Although Al Gore makes it quite plain that he wants Americans to reduce their carbon footprint, he feels he is too important to have to turn down his A/C or reduce his electrical use to a reasonable amount.

He claims that he is purchasing some of his electricity from sources that use alternate means of generatng electricity, like wind and solar, and that some of his electricity comes from his own solar energy system.  He also drives a hybrid car.

Until Mr. Gore sees fit to follow the advice he is giving everybody else,  it’s my feeling that this hypocrite should be shunned by the environmental community until he can honestly say he practices what he preaches.
