Alternatives to Hybrid Vehicles

Hybrid cars are becoming very popular these days due to cost of gasoline and the effect of burning fossil-fuel on global warming.  They are fuel efficient and produce a lot less emission that the conventional fuels.

The Latest Fad

Driving a hybrid vehicle is now the latest fad. If you travel long distances on a consistent basis the fuel savings could offset the sticker price of the vehicle.  However, if you don’t drive often or drive short distances the hybrid may not save you any money at all. Either way, the present gas electric hybrid is the best way of saving the environment.

Bio Diesel
European car manufactures have developed a new breed of diesel cars that burn fuel efficiently.  These bio diesel vehicles are way ahead of the hybrid as far as fuel economy is concerned.  The fuel cost savings is astronomical compared to the standard diesel. Believe it or not, these vehicles can give as much as 90mpg.  American manufacturers are following suit and are now producing these autos.

Hydraulic Hybrids
The hydraulic hybrid car is another hybrid innovation.  It shares the same basic principles of standard hybrids except that a hydraulic accumulator is used to store energy via nitrogen gas.  Then it is compressed by a hydrogen motor and powers a hydraulic drive train, eliminating the need for a transmission.  These two vital differences not only make it extremely efficient but also cheaper to produce than normal hybrid cars.

Electric Cars
Another competitor to the standard hybrid cars are electric cars. They are outstanding at saving money and the environment but are not viable for long distance travel due to the inability of the battery to store the required amount of energy.

Fuel Cells
Fuel cell cars are another alternative to hybrid cars.  Fuel cells are definitely a great option as far as the environment is concerned because it is almost 100% emission free.  It works by mixing liquid hydrogen and oxygen to miss with gas. This energy can then be used to generate electric power to drive the car.

It appears there is no loser in the hybrid vs alternative fuel fight. They both save money and the environment.  Go Green!
