Are You Poisoning Your Family At Home

Do you use common household products like air fresheners, fabric softeners, laundry detergents and dryer sheets? If so, you are unintentionally poisoning you and your family.

More and more scientific studies are being done on these products, especially those that have perfume in it. Believe it or not, the toxins used to bring out a clean, fresh smell are deadly chemicals that your children are breathing in everyday.

Almost all fabric softeners, laundry detergents and dryer sheets can have devastating effects on your family’s health. Short term consequences of using these products include breathing difficulties, dizziness, headache, rashes and even upset stomaches. Long term exposure can cause seizures, cancer, especially lung cancer.

It’s easy to avoid these deadly chemicals. The general rule of thumb is that if you can smell a scent, even a light scent, in your house, on your clothing, or from your cleaners, then you are endangering your life and the lives of your family. Your house and clothes should smell like, well, nothing!

Here are some ideas to replace those toxic products:

  • Use baking soda and scouring pad to clean the toilet, tub and sink
  • Instead of furniture polish to dust furniture, use a slightly damp rag

Open a window to freshen up the air in the house

Vinegar and a bit of dish detergent are effective and safe for cleaning windows and glass

Take the safe alternative when washing floors by using warm water and a little dish detergent.

Perhaps the best way action you can take is to eliminate the use of dryer fabrics and bleach.

Removing these household toxins has an added bonus, it helps the environment. The deadly toxins of these products eventually end up in our water systems, atmosphere and in our landfills.

Making these simple changes will make your family healthier and promote green living.
