Use Common Sense And Save Energy
Believe it or not it’s the small things that add up to save you money and energy. It’s amazing how the most common sense ideas escape us when it comes to conserving energy. Have you ever walked through your day to see the amount of energy you waste? Here is an example:
A Day In The Life
You wake up in the morning, turn on the light in the room, go to bathroom and turn light on, take a long shower, dry off, dress, turn on the TV and have a little breakfast (after turning the light on in the kitchen). The air-conditioner has been going on full power for two weeks and your bathroom sink has a pretty good leak – but towels around the base work fine!
You leave the house, get in your car and head to work. When you get there you realize you left the TV and the lights on in the house. You forget about it immediately!
It’s 5 o’clock and the gang is going for drinks. You end up staggering to your doorstep at 11:30 PM. You get in the house and fall into bed – good night Irene! The lights and TV stay on all night!
“Green Awareness”
An extreme case? Maybe? But do you get the point? We don’t even notice that we are wasting energy. If we at least become aware that we are maybe we’re one step closer to doing the things to save energy. It sounds silly, but it’s probably true.
Some Ideas
Now here are a couple of common sense ideas that can really help save you money on energy bills.
- You remember your telling you to “get in or get out”? Well she was right, you are wasting energy. The longer it stays open the more you waste.
- Another thing you can do is take a shorter shower – try an 8 minute one. Maybe you have to speed it up a bit but hey, but look at the bright side, you’ll burn some calories. If you have to, get wet, shut the water off, lather up and wash, then turn the water back on and rinse. You can even lower the temperature of the water to save money on fuel.
The energy required to heat the hot water tank can be significant and this is a great way to save enough money were it is worth doing.
